WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR SEC 3 PMC (20-22 JAN & 30 Jan-2 Feb).
WEEKLY ANNOUNCEMENT FOR SEC 3 PMC (20-22 JAN & 30 Jan-2 Feb).
[S3 Physics PMCians]
What we did in 2 hours:
This week, we embark on the topic of Light which many of you had learnt in lower secondary. We started on Reflection which is not a difficult concept to understand, but questions can be challenging especially when Maths concepts like Similar triangles are involved. We also touched on the concept of Refraction (Bending of Light) whereby we learnt how to determine the refractive index of a transparent medium.
What you take home:
Try this Refraction simulator at home, and play around with the settings.
Special Mention:
Try shining the light ray from water (optically denser) to air (optically less dense), and see what happens when you adjust the angle of incidence. You will notice that the light ray will reflect back completely after a certain angle. Why is that so? We’ll discuss this in the next lesson. Stay tuned!

What we did in 2 hours:
We finished up the last concept on solving equations involving surds. We have practised on two cases, namely:
We ended surds with another test, which includes word problem involving surds. This had made the students to recall some of the concepts learnt in lower sec:
Finally, we wrapped up the lesson with our team-based game on Indices/Surds. Click on the link to view the solution on 4Q-Indices/Surds:
What you take home:

Special Mention:
Highest score: 18/18
Congratulations to the 3 students who scored full marks!
Ryan Lim Zhenyu, from Montford Secondary
Yang Yuan Ming, from St. Joseph’s Institution
Harika Vellampalli, from Cresent Girls’ School
Test scores have been uploaded to your student portal. You are encouraged to continue with the practice on Indices/Surds, as this topic will be back again in the later chapter.
We will be doing Sum & Product of roots this week, followed by a team-based game. See you in class!

What we did in 2 hours:
We completed our learning in naming ionic and covalent compounds and rationalising physical properties of these substances. This chapter will require precise key words in your answers, do take some time to read through them as highlighted in class and master your dot and cross diagrams!
What you take home:
Start practicing the questions in your Take Home Gems package as it offers a variety of questions assessing the concepts taught in class. You should be able to complete questions up till Pg 9 in the package.
Special Mention:
We will continue our chapter by exploring two more types of bonding – giant covalent and metallic.
Trivia: Did you know you can create a circuit at home using graphite from pencil?
