[S4] Term 1 Week 11 March Holidays (16-22 Mar) Updates/ Debrief

[S4 Physics PMCians]

What we did in 2 hours:

We managed to complete, with the aid of the additional lesson, the entire chapter of Practical Electricity in just 1 week! We learnt how to calculate Power in order to determine the brightness of a bulb, how to use the correct equation and method when presented with either a parallel or series circuit.

we also learnt the many safety features present in an electrical appliance, such as the fuse and the Earth wire.

What you take home:

Please watch this excellent video that shows clearly how an Earth wire works (in a Singapore household).

Special Mention:

Next lesson, get ready for our Practical Electricity tests! Its time to find out whether if you are a PMC “Power” ranger or just an ordinary “Practical” student!  =)

What we did in 2 hours:

This week we look at the derivatives of exponential and logarithmic functions and wrapped up the entire chapter on Differentiation of Other Function with testes.

We recalled solving exponential and logarithmic function from secondary 3. Continuing from these recaps, we learnt how to find the derivatives of exponential and logarithmic functions with simple tricks!

With the skills imparted, we use differentiation to solve exam problems involving trigonometry, exponential and logarithmic function in Test C and Test D respectively.

What you take home:

Please do the Take Home Assessment Test B:

Please download the Daily Dose on Differentiation of Exponential and Logarithmic function additional questions for your learning here:

 Special Mention:

We had finally come to the end of differentiation. Next week onward, we are starting on Integration – the reverse process of differentiation. Hope you look forward to it.

Thank you.

[S4 Chemistry PMCians]

What we did in 2 hours:

We have mastered the physical and chemical properties of both alkanes and alkenes. We also successfully stretched our knowledge of homologous series by attempting several application questions.

What you take home:

You are ready to complete all the questions in the Take Home package. Do take some time to consolidate the chemical reactions, including reaction conditions, of alkanes and alkenes.

Special Mention:

Be prepared for a Quick Fire Round on alkanes and alkenes the upcoming lesson. All the best!

Also, to support our friends taking their weighted assessments, do look out for additional practice questions on salts which will be uploaded onto the student portal by Wednesday.

Here’s an infographic on differences between fractions of crude oil used as fuels for cars and trucks as well as a little more information on structural isomers.

Thank you.
