[S2] Term 1 Week 5 (3-9 Feb) Updates/Debrief

[S2 Maths + Science PMCians]

What we did in 2 hours:

This week, we started our first Science lesson on Ionic Bonding & Covalent Bonding. 

We started the lesson with a quick recap on what you should already know about atom, its proton number and nucleon number. We then learnt how electrons are arranged around the nucleus (i.e. electronic structure and electronic configuration). We also learnt about atoms lose/gain electrons to form positive/negative ions in order to achieve the stable structure of noble gases.

 

What you take home:

Trends observed in a periodic table,

              Group number = the number of valence electrons

              Period number = the number of electron shells.

The charge of an Ion can be deduced from its Group Number.

Special Mention:

We will continue and complete our lesson on Ionic bonding & Covalent bonding next week. There will be tests before lesson ended.
