What we did in 2 hours:
Good to see all of you back after the 2 weeks break!
After a quick 10min recap on Sec 1 algebraic expansion, we went on to look at what Sec 2 expansion has for us! Instead of a single term entering the “house” (ie, formally known as brackets), we have 2 “houses” side by side. Using our trusty rainbow method, we can expand all sorts of expressions with patience and practising due diligence to ensure all terms are accounted for at the last line.
Moving into the 2nd hour, we introduced students with 3 shortcuts:
(i) (a+b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab +b^2
(ii) (a-b)^2 = a^2 – 2ab +b^2
(iii) (a+b)(a-b) = a^2 – b^2
These shortcuts enable us to tackle expansion questions with much more speed. As mentioned in class, the speed will come after much practice. So, have you tried the Take Away Questions on page 19 to 23 ? – please do so before you attend this coming lesson.
Special Mention:
This coming week, we’ll be moving on to solving quadratic equations and interesting word problems.
Should you need assistance in your daily practices, do send your attempted workings and questions to 9005 1733. We will strive to clarify your doubts.
See you in class! 😀
