Estimate your University Admission Score on the 70 point system from 2026 onward.

If you are in JC now, your A Level results are no longer just “grades”, they translate into JC Rank Points (RP) or University Admission Score (UAS) out of 70 rank points. This is the number local universities will use for admissions from AY2026 onwards.
Parents and students who understand this early can plan subject combinations, set realistic course targets, and apply strategically for scholarships.
This guide simplifies the new 70 point A Level rank point system, points you to official university Indicative Grade Profiles (IGPs), and scholarships.
From admissions AY2026 onwards, universities will compute a maximum of 70 rank points based on:
This alone can give you the full 70 points if you score straight As:
Project Work (PW) is now graded Pass / Fail, and no longer gives rank points for university admission.
Most JC students still take a 4th content subject and H1 MTL. These are optional in the UAS computation and will be counted only if they improve your final score.
The official formulas used by schools and universities look like this
The university or calculator will compute all valid options and use the highest score.
This also means you can choose your 4th subject more by interest and strength, not fear, since a weaker grade can be left out of UAS.
Use our JC Rank Point calculator above to help you with your calculations!
| Grade | H2 RP (max 20) | H1 RP (max 10) |
|---|---|---|
| A | 20 | 10 |
| B | 17.5 | 8.75 |
| C | 15 | 7.5 |
| D | 12.5 | 6.25 |
| E | 10 | 5 |
| S | 5 | 2.5 |
| U | 0 | 0 |
Once you have gotten your UAS out of 70 from our JC Rank Point calculator, use the Indicative Grade Profiles (IGPs) to see whether each course is a safety, realistic, or stretch choice. IGPs show the 10th and 90th percentile of A Level students who were actually offered places in the previous intake, based on their 3 H2 and 1 H1 grades.
If your UAS is around or above last year’s 10th percentile for a course, that course is usually realistic. If you are far below, treat it as a stretch and build in safer options.

Strong rank points open doors not just to courses, but to scholarships.
We suggest that you use your UAS and IGPs to narrow down realistic courses. From that course shortlist, identify scholarships whose criteria you meet. Then, prepare a focused portfolio and cover letter instead of spraying applications everywhere.
Your A Level rank points do not appear overnight. They are built across every topic test, promo and block test, long before the A levels.
If your child is serious about securing a strong UAS, the plan is simple:
At PMC, our JC Physics, Maths and Chemistry programmes are designed around exactly this reality.
We focus on the subjects that decide your child’s rank points, with structured notes, targeted exam questions and tutors who track progress across the year.
