[J2] Lesson 29 (Quantum Physics Revision +Inequalities + Organic Chemistry)

[J2 Physics PMCians] Concluding Quantum Physics

What we did in 2 hours:

We completed the review of the remaining sections in Quantum Physics, namely, Line SpectraX-raydeBroglie equation and Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle.

In this brief overview we showed that at the sub-atomic level, not only is energy quantised, but also the electron’s energy as it goes around the nucleus, the effects of which produce the Emission and Absorption Line spectra. We explored how X-rays are produced, and how varying the accelerating voltage affects the minimum wavelength and intensity of x-ray. We concluded with the famous Wave-Particle Duality and Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle.

In our next lesson, we start our journey to look at challenging Grade A questions on Quantum Physics and learn what to write in a free response question.

Till we meet again, enjoy the 1 week school break.

What we did in 2 hours:

Wrapping up our Pure Math revision is Inequalities & Equations. As one of the more straightforward chapters, our focus was more on exposure to a wider range of questions, as well as managing details in information intensive questions.

Quiz A has been released as a followup for the chapter, and as we move on to Statistics revision this week, we will be releasing regular quizzes to keep your Pure Math engine running. Worked solutions will be released via announcements one week after each quiz.

What you take home:

Worked solutions for the remaining questions and Quiz A solutions are linked here.

What we did in 2 hours:

This lesson, you have picked up essential skills when dealing with novel reactions that you have not encountered. The questions in this lesson trained you to predict reactants and products, honing your pattern recognition skills. We then learned how to draw new mechanisms, paying much attention to arrows, dipoles and the intermediates.

What you take home:

The solutions to Homework of Reaction Mechanism is found here:

Special Mention:

Next lesson, we will continue to build upon our skills for novel reactions, and head on to revise Acidity, Basicity and Hydrolysis of Organic Compounds.

Stay healthy!
