[S4 Physics PMCians]

What we did in 2 hours:

We have just started on the electrifying journey of Static Electricity, where we learnt the basic concepts of charges and how we can charge an object, depending on whether it’s a conductor or an insulator.  We also found out the dangers of Static electricity where a simple spark could lead to a disaster if the body is not properly earthed.

What you take home:

A great video that shows and explains the science of static electricity with cute cartoons.

If you are bored and very free, please try out the awesome static tricks below. It can be a bit challenging to attempt a few of them in Singapore due to our high humidity, so don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t work so well.

Special Mention:

In the next lesson, we’ll continue to explore the wonders of Static electricity and its applications in real life. We’ll also find out more about the invisible electric field present around charges.

[S4 Maths PMCians] Differentiation – a measure of the rate at which something changes with respect to something

What we did in 2 hours:

This week, we started on another giant topic – Differentiation. We practised on the 3 techniques of differentiation:

  1. Simple
  2. Chain Rule
  3. Product Rule

We also solve some basic application of differentiation questions involving basic concepts from your coordinate geometry.

What you take home:

Please do the Take Home Questions on Differentiation page 22 – 24.

[S4 Chemistry PMCians]
What we did in 2 hours:

We completed our chapter on energy changes and learnt to interpret enthalpy change equations as well as exploring advantages and disadvantages of various fuels. Our lesson ended off with a thought-provoking 8Q quiz challenge and it’s great to see all of you doing well for the quiz to kick off the year.

What you take home:

Do practice the questions in the Take Home Gems as they will help reinforce your learning and get used to question styles for your prelims & O levels. Feel free to consult if you have any doubts after attempting the questions and checking your answers.

Special Mention:

Have a good break, and we will be back to explore an important chapter on Electrolysis!

Wishing you and your family a happy lunar new year!
