[S4] Term 1 Week 8 (24 Feb-1 Mar) Updates/ Debrief

[S4 Physics PMCians]

What we did in 2 hours:

In the last lesson of Current of Electricity, we finally understand how temperature can affect the resistance of a conductor (or semi-conductor).   And from that understanding, we’ll be able to predict the shape of its I-V graph.

We also learnt about the semi-conductor diode and how to apply it to a circuit, whether its DC or AC. And we had a sneak preview of DC circuits as well, showing you guys a cool method (shortcut) to solving potential difference in a series circuit.

Lastly, many of you did well or even obtain full marks for COE test B, keep it up! You fully deserve a pat on the back and of course, a treat from us in the form of PMC dollars!

What you take home:

Interesting experiment to show how the resistance of a conductor changes as it is placed in liquid nitrogen. Observe how the light bulb changes its brightness over time, do you know why?

Special Mention:

Next lesson, we will continue with our journey into DC circuits which is a very important topic, so stay ‘connected’ with us, and hopefully we can short-circuit your path to enlightenment!

[S4 Maths PMCians]

What we did in 2 hours:

This week, we complete the chapter on RATE OF CHANGE.

In the chapter, we look at some applications of differentiation by focusing on the interpretation of the derivatives as the rate of change of a function. We can use connected rates of change to solve real life problem using the 5 approaches:

  1. Representing all rates given
  2. Form the connected rate of change chain
  3. Finding equation and differentiate it
  4. Substituting all values back into the chain
  5. Complete with a statement

We ended our lesson with a 4 questions team quiz to deepen your skill set in a fun way.

What you take home:

Please do the Take Home Questions on Rate of Change. (pg. 127 & 128)

 Special Mention:

In the next lesson, we’ll wrap up application on differentiation with tests and quizzes. Get prepared!

[S4 Chemistry PMCians]

What we did in 2 hours:

We have successfully concluded our Topic Mastery Quiz 1 where we took on Chemistry Practical questions. We also started to hone our data-based analysis skills with the topic on Atmosphere.

What you take home:

Do spend some time to consolidate your knowledge by practicing questions in the Take Home Gems. You should be able to complete up till Pg. 6 of Atmosphere & Ammonia.

Special Mention:

Congratulations to the top 3 scorers in our Topic Mastery Quiz

1st – Sanjjeev Ganesan, SGSS

2nd – Ernest Wang, SGSS

3rd – Chua Boon Bing, RI & Ryan Tan Wey Han, CHS

Here’s also a quick infographic on how catalytic converters work to reduce atmospheric pollutants.
