[S4] Lesson 30 (Thermal Year End Revision + Trigonometry Part 2 + Redox & Metals EOY )

[S4 Physics PMCians]

What we did in 2 hours:

On the 25th and 26th Jul, the S4PH has come together to cover the following during our weekly lesson:

1) Complete Secret Enclosed Concept 3 – Transfer of Thermal Energy

2) Discuss on the Final Lap – Transfer of Thermal Energy MCQs Qn 1 to 17 and Structured Qns 1 to 3.

3) Kahoot Quiz (The PMC Way)

Always remember:

1) For metal, the main mechanism is Free Electron Diffusion mechanism while for non-metal it will be due to Molecular Vibration and collision.

2) Trapped air is a poor conductor of thermal energy.

3) For convection, the hot fluid will expand in volume and become lesser dense and rise, while surrounding cooler and denser fluid sink. This will set up convection current.

4) For radiation, EMITTER will be used when T(object) > T(surrounding) while ABSORBER  will be used when T(object) < T(surrounding).

What you take home:

We will start on Mechanical Wave and EM wave this coming week!

Special Mention:

Should you have any questions, please feel free to send in your questions (and attempted workings) to 9100 1235. We will do our utmost to assist you in the questions. If you have any upcoming test or examination and would like to re-watch any of the past videos, do whats-app to 9100 1235 to inquire!!

Take care and Always with you,

What we did in 2 hours:

We continued on Trigonometry Revision this week focusing mainly on R formula. To handle the R-Formula questions, we need to recall the following expression as they will not be appearing on your formula sheet during exam.

a sin θ ± b cos θ = R sin (θ ± α)

a cos θ ± b sin θ = R cos (θ ∓ α)

We solved various types of R- Formula question, knowing that a typical long structured question normally consists of proving, expressing, solving and application of maximum/minimum. We learned the skillsets on these during the lesson, together with more practice, I am sure all of you will be rewarded with plenty of marks.

What you take home:

Solutions for The Final Lap 20minTest, The Last Lap – Take Away Questions

And Solution for Q1-2

 Special Mention:

Next week, we will continue on Trigonometry Revision, it’s a major chapter that we need more practice. We will be looking into real life application in relation with trigonometry graph. Meanwhile, stay safe and take care.

What we did in 2 hours:

We have completed our revision on Metals focusing on the extraction of iron and prevention of rust (i.e. oxidation of iron). We also applied our knowledge on the reactivity series to prevent rusting by picking a more reactive metal that acts as the sacrificial metal (i.e. more reactive metal is preferentially oxidised)

What you take home:

You are now able to complete the entire Take Home Package of Metals. Do clarify your questions via whatsapp or in the upcoming class.

Special Mention:

We will be starting our revision on electrolysis this weekend. You should have a quick read on the reactivity series of metals as well as the colours of the metals and their solutions as it will help with our discussion this coming weekend.

Hereby attached are the solutions for Pg 33 and 34 of Metals & Redox EOY for S4CHEM PL:
