[S1] Term 1 Week 7 (17-23 Feb) Updates/Debrief

[S1 Maths + Science PMCians]

What we did in 2 hours:

This week, we completed our Science topic on Mass, Weight & Density.

After this lesson, you should be able to tell the difference between Mass and Weight, just like a scientist. ;P

  • Mass [kg] is the amount of matter in a body and it remains constant regardless of location
  • Weight [N] is the force acting on a body by the gravitational attraction of a planet and it changes with location.

We also learnt about Density and know that this is the physical property that determines whether an object floats or sinks.

  • Density is the mass packed in a unit volume.

Finally, we wrap up our lesson by having some fun playing PMC Kahoot.

Here are two simple yet fun experiments that you can try out at home.

1) Why does an orange float but sink when it is peeled? Shouldn’t a peeled orange which is lighter float?

2) How to make an egg float?

What you take home:

Do reinforce what you have learnt by attempting the additional practice on Mass, Weight & Density given in the Daily Dose booklet.

Special Mention:

We will kick-start our series of Algebra lessons, starting with Algebraic Expression in next lesson.

See you! 🙂
